The Biddeford Free Clinic succeeds because of volunteer commitment, volunteer time and community resources working together to promote its mission.

Our success continues to grow because of our collaboratives with community partners:

Southern Maine Medical Center, SMMC Prime Care Physicians, University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, community physicians, specialists, dentists, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, nurses, medical technologists, podiatrists, optometrists, physical therapists, social workers, medical students at UNE and others. These community health professionals are an integral part of the Biddeford Free Clinic volunteer staff.

What We Are

The Biddeford Free Clinic is a nonprofit 501 (C) (3) tax exempt organization established in 1993 to provide medical care for the uninsured in York County in Southern Maine.

Our History

About Us Photo 2In November 1992, Dr. Francis J. Kleeman, along with his wife Alphine, his children and several enthusiastic volunteers, established a free medical clinic for patients without health insurance in York County, Maine. Dr. Kleeman retired from the practice of urology and as Chief of Urology at the Southern Maine Medical Center, Biddeford, Maine on January 1, 2000. He continues as the President of the clinic and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Southern Maine Medical Center. He is an adjunct faculty member at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and formerly on the adjunct faculty of Tufts Medical School and Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Kleeman is also a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.

The Biddeford Free Clinic, the first free medical clinic in the northeast, was created to meet the health care needs of the uninsured in southern Maine. Each year approximately 700 individuals receive free medical care and prescription non-narcotic medication at the clinic.

Who We Help

About Us Photo 3The Biddeford Free Clinic provides accessible and free outpatient general medical care and prescription medication to adults and children who have no medical insurance and cannot afford private medical care.

The Biddeford Free Clinic CANNOT provide services to those who have medical insurance of any type, i.e., Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, etc.
